I Loved, I Mean LOVED my Vegas Trip

So, I thought I would write a blog about my trip to Vegas for the Esthetics, Cosmetics, and Spa Conference. I had a lot of fun. I went to a few classes but I enjoyed one expecially. She was an amazing speaker. She has been in the buisness for 29 years. The class was called First Class Facials with Noreen Young. She had so many cute ideas for when I open my open buisness. The ideas included fun ways to host little get togethers and how to make the whole buisness feel warm and inviting for clients. She thinks just like I do.

After my classes I went to check out the booths. Oh My Gosh! I have never been so excited. Everything is at a great price. I bought myself some brushes and was able to snag samples too. I know now for next year I need to bring an extra suit case! :)

Oily, sensitive, pigmented, tight

I took the questionaire and found that I am oily, sensitive, pigmented, and tight. Now, I knew I was oily. However I found I am slightly sensitive and pigmented, it doesn't help that I live in Hawaii. My skin is tight because I apply spf daily and I've quit smoking.

The book is awesome. I have found out so much info while reading it. For instance did you know that it is very important to wear sun protection while on the plane? The reason is because when those windows are open hamful amounts of UVA can penetrate through.

I would also like to share that I am now lead esthetician at the spa I work at. :)

A new book..

I picked up a new book today at the bookstore. I was going to grab Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me but found The Skin Type Solution instead. I have just finished the first two chapters. The beginning explains her, Leslie Baumann, M.D., way of skin typing. That we aren't just separated by oily, dry, acne, normal, or sensitive. She gets a little more in depth.

I love that her book includes the questionnaire she gives her clients. I'm in the middle of taking the questionnaire. I will write more as soon as I get through the "game" as she called it.

I just had to share this find.

Stupidity

I know everyone makes "stupid" mistakes. I'm just curious, when do we stop calling it a mistake and call it a choice.

About a year ago a woman and her friend came in for a wrap and a massage at my spa. After each of their treatments they went to the women's locker room to wash up. One of them found, what looked like to her, a fallen bit of hair mask. Now, let me add that we keep our spa quite clean. The hair mask it was not, but rather excrement. The smell was overwhelming through out the spa after she had massaged it in. I do not know how she couldn't realize what it was. After she made this "mistake" she found our spa director and requested it be shampooed out by one of our stylists and then comp. her treatments. The spa director aloud this to happen. I still wonder if this was a ploy today... but how illaborate and gross.

Conferences

There are a few conferences coming up for Estheticians.  They are the Face and Body Spa and Healthy Aging Conference and Expo and International Aesthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference.
IECSC is having a few this year, LasVegas, Illinois, and Florida.  Face and Body Spa Conf. will be held in San Jose, CA this year.  I am hoping to go to at least one of these this year.

Hamburger vs. Esthetician

Sunday, was the usual, starts off slow then works itself into a busy day filled with waxing.  I have started doing Brazilians with in the past few months.  I decided to bring the Brazilian into my repatoire because, I need the extra money.  I had a hard time in the beginning, trying to avoid waxing some of the "more sensitive" areas.  Now I can say that I am pretty darn good.  I'm no longer afraid to take charge and have the client hold "bits" tight and away.  It's just this Sunday I was taken by surprise.  It started off easy and casual but then she told me what she had for lunch.  "I had a hamburger with jalapeno cheese, chili, and fried onions.  It was sooo good," she said.
Now, I was thinking, "Please don't fart. Please."
I got through the whole front and then continued on and had her flip over.  This is when I heard her pass gas, fart, poot, etc.  I was turned away from her at the wax pot at this time.  I can't imagine what my face looked like.  I composed myself quickly.  That is when she said, "Ooops!  My bad.  I'm glad you weren't down there when that happened."
   I said, "Hmm yah."
Let me just say this if you know you are going to get a waxing clean up, exfoliate the area (salicylic acid), and please, please don't eat any food that may make you gassy.  That last part I would think would be common sense.
P.S. Hamburger won!
